In lieu of a nini-flower show, this month we are showcasing five of DeKalb Federation member designers. Each designer will be assigned a specific design type to create. They will discuss their design parameters and share their design strategies and plant and container selections for the designs.

Pollinators Count! – Becky Griffin
Becky Griffin is the University of Georgia (UGA) Community & School Garden Coordinator for the Georgia Center for Urban Agriculture. Known to many of us as the person who initiated the 2017 Georgia Pollinator count, now the Southeastern Pollinator Count, Becky has worked with schools and communities to educate others on the importance of pollinators. Becky will discuss the Census, its evolution and impact.

AWARE Wildlife Center – Scott Lange
Scott Lange, Executive Director of AWARE (Atlanta Wild Animal Rescue Effort), will give an informative overview of the AWARE Wildlife Center, including its goals and missions. He will share anecdotal tales of some of the wildlife center’s most colorful patients and/or residents.

“Monet as a Gardener”
Did you know that Monet designed and cultivated his gardens at Giverny so that he could paint them? Using photos that she took during trips to France, DeKalb Federation member Dianne Smith will illustrate how Monet used color theory and plant choices in many of his famous paintings.
